FAQS

I want to make an appointment to see a Psychologist, what do I do next?

When you call Inpsyte Psychology, we will have a brief chat with you about what you are experiencing, in order to match you to the most suitable psychologist. If you do not get through to someone when you call, please leave a message and we will return your call as soon as possible. If we do not feel we are the best people to help with your particular situation we will try to give you the contact details of a more suitable therapist.

What can I expect in the first session?

It is very normal to feel uncomfortable about talking to a new person about personal things. At Inpsyte Psychology, we take a supportive and non-judgmental approach to counselling.

In the first session, your therapist will conduct a thorough assessment of your current life situation, difficulties and any related factors and history. This is important to enable us to help you in the most effective and efficient way.

You will have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have and, your psychologist will be able to develop a treatment plan that you are comfortable with.

Subsequent sessions will be tailored to address your concerns, with the pace of this process also adapted to suit your needs so that you are comfortable with it at all times. Your Psychologist will discuss this with you in the first session.

When is the ‘right’ time to start counselling?

Often, individuals may feel that seeking assistance is only required when there is a crisis. However, early intervention can sometimes mean prevention of a crisis developing. If you aren’t sure, please call us for a confidential discussion about your concerns.

How long is a session?

Each session is approximately 50-60 minutes.

How often do I need to attend?

The frequency of your appointments will depend on your particular needs, however most people will initially attend sessions weekly or fortnightly.

How many sessions do I need?

Your Psychologist will discuss with you at the first session how regularly to attend and how many sessions may be required. Some clients begin to see results after only a few sessions while others require assistance over a longer period. Sometimes this can mean seeing your Psychologist initially and then taking some time out from counselling before recommencing sessions at a later stage. Our treatment plans are flexible to fit in with your schedule and financial situation.

To help you get the most out of your appointments, we will periodically review the progress of your therapy, with reference to your goals. In general, the frequency of sessions normally decreases over the course of treatment, with a three month follow-up ideal.
